なぜ、わざわざ本を
Why a book
紙の手触り、本によって違う質感には、電子の画面上では得られない魅力があります。古い活版印刷の本を見ると、愛おしく感じます。 本は昔から東洋でも西洋でも宝物として扱われてきました。たとえば、写本はそれ自体が宝物ですが、私にとって同じように手間暇かけられたzineは宝物であると感じています。 Zineはある意味無駄なものではあると思います。それをわざわざ現実で手に取ってもらうのですから、素材感にこだわって宝物のような作品を目指しています。だからこそ、時間や手間がかかっても、紙に刷り、本という形にしたいのです。
The feel of paper, and the textures that differ from book to book, have a charm you cannot get on an electronic screen. When I see an old letterpress-printed book, I feel a great fondness for it. Since ancient times, books have been treated as treasures in both East and West. A manuscript, for instance, is itself a treasure, and for me a zine made with the same care and labor feels just as much a treasure. In a sense, a zine is a useless thing. And since I am asking people to go out of their way to hold it in reality, I aim, by paying attention to the sense of materials, to make works that are like treasures. That is exactly why, even if it takes time and trouble, I want to print on paper and give it the form of a book.
なぜ、わざわざ伊賀へ
Why Iga
私は三重県や伊賀を訪れたことがありません。 だからこそ、自分が普段生活している場所とは異なる土地に本を持っていき、そこでどのような人と出会い、どのように受け取られるのかに興味があります。展示や販売を通して、自分の考えや表現が、自分の知らない場所へ広がっていくことに面白さを感じています。
I have never visited Mie Prefecture or Iga. That is exactly why I am interested in taking my books to a land different from where I usually live, and in what kind of people I will meet there and how the books will be received. Through exhibiting and selling, I find it fascinating that my thoughts and expression spread out to places I do not know.
