About
道音舎は紀伊半島の和歌山県を拠点にする出版レーベルです。写真、版画、彫刻作品など、ジャンルを問わず多様なアートブックの制作を手がけます。過去には和歌山在住の写真家松原時夫、照井壮平、同じく和歌山在住の版画家番留京子、津軽を拠点にする写真家柴田祥らの作品集などを出版してきました。特に土着的に活動する作家に注目し、出版活動を行っています。
Michioto Publishing is a publishing label based in Wakayama Prefecture on the Kii Peninsula. We produce a wide variety of art books across every genre—photography, printmaking, sculpture, and more. In the past we have published collections by the Wakayama-based photographers Tokio Matsubara and Sohei Terui, the Wakayama-based printmaker Kyoko Bandome, and the Tsugaru-based photographer Sho Shibata, among others. We pay particular attention to artists who work in a rooted, locally grounded way, and it is with them that we carry out our publishing.

In addition to introducing our list of existing titles, Sohei Terui, the author of the photobook “Noroshi,” will accompany us so that they can communicate with people directly. なぜ、わざわざ本を
Why a book
道音舎は、本を単なる情報やアート作品の複製物ではなく、作家による第一次表現としての媒体として捉えています。写真や言葉などのコンテンツと、紙、綴じ、重さ、手触りなどを通して、作家の表現と読む人の体験をつなげていければと思っています。それはわざわざ物質的な本を作ることで実現することと考えています。
Michioto Publishing regards a book not as a mere reproduction of information or of an artwork, but as a medium that is itself the artist’s primary expression. Through content such as photographs and words, together with paper, binding, weight, and touch, we hope to connect the artist’s expression with the reader’s experience. We believe this is something realized precisely by going to the trouble of making a physical book.
なぜ、わざわざ伊賀へ
Why Iga
私たちはよく「本が旅をする」という表現を使います。これまで伊賀と特別なつながりがあるわけではありませんが、たまたま募集を発見し「旅してみたい」と感じました。スタッフのひとりに参加を相談したところ「伊賀、好きなんですよ。お気に入りの銭湯もあります。」と返事があり応募することを決めました。
We often use the phrase “books travel.” We have had no particular connection with Iga until now, but we happened to come across the open call and felt we wanted to travel there. When we consulted one of our staff about taking part, the reply came back: “I love Iga. I even have a favorite public bathhouse there.” And so we decided to apply.
