Waza Waza が大切にしているのは、まだ出会ったことのない本を見ること、まだ届けたことのない場所で見せること。売るためにつくられた本だけでなく、一冊しかない本、自分で見つけ集めた本——そうしたものを持ち寄れる場でありたいと考えています。国内外からつくり手や届け手が集まり、伊賀という土地で文化が交差する。それがこのフェアの核にあるものです。

What Waza Waza values is encountering books you have never seen before, and showing them in places they have never been. This is not only a place for books made to sell — it welcomes one-of-a-kind copies and books you have found and gathered yourself — carried here because you want someone else to discover them. Creators and carriers gather from Japan and around the world, and in Iga, cultures cross. That is what lies at the heart of this fair.

タブレットやスマホで本の内容を気軽に持ち運び読める今の時代。それでも「わざわざ」本をつくり、届け、手に取ることには意味がある——WAZAWAZAはその問いから出発しています。

近年、個人や小さな団体が本を印刷・製本し、発表するセルフパブリッシングが国内外で広がりを見せています。商業出版とは異なり、「売れる／売れない」に左右されず、言葉・写真・絵・記録・思想をかたちにする行為です。

生み出される本の中には、読むためだけでなく、見る・触れる・感じるという体験の中に置かれるものも存在します。このフェアでは、国内外の多様な出版社や表現者が一堂に集い、ZINEや手作りの本、ポスターやステッカーに至るまで、図書館や大型流通では出会いにくいアートブックを紹介・販売します。また、アーティストによる作品展示や、本やZINEを作るワークショップも開催する予定です。

思いもよらぬ本や作品との出会い、普段見ることのない多様な文化や知識と出合いの場の創出を目指しながら、デジタル化が進むこの社会の中で、わざわざ「本」を選択する意味やその面白さについて考えます。

In an age when books can be carried and read effortlessly on tablets and smartphones, there remains a meaning in going out of one's way — waza waza — to make, deliver, and hold a book. WAZAWAZA begins from this question.

In recent years, self-publishing — where individuals and small groups print, bind, and present their own books — has grown into a global movement. Unlike commercial publishing, it is an act of giving form to words, photographs, drawings, records, and ideas, free from the pressures of marketability.

At this fair, diverse publishers and creators from Japan and abroad gather in one place to present and sell art books — from zines and handmade books to posters and stickers — works rarely found in libraries or mainstream distribution. Artist exhibitions and workshops on bookmaking and zine creation are also planned.

We aim to create a place for unexpected encounters with books and artworks, a space to meet diverse cultures and knowledge not found in everyday life — while reflecting on the meaning and joy of deliberately choosing the book in an increasingly digital world.

アートブックの起源は20世紀前衛芸術（ダダ、フルクサスなど）にあり、制度の外で表現をひらくために「複製可能なメディア」として本が用いられてきました。

現在では、NY Art Book Fair（Printed Matter主催）、Miss Read（ベルリン）、Offprint（パリ）、TOKYO ART BOOK FAIRなど、世界各地でアートブックフェアが開催されています。中でもアジアは注目のマーケットとされ、海外から多くの作家がアジアでのチャレンジ出展を目指しています。

アートブックフェアは「商業流通に乗せる書籍」ではなく、「表現の場」「出会い直す場」「文化編集の場」として拡張されつつあるジャンルです。

The roots of the artist book lie in 20th-century avant-garde movements — Dada, Fluxus, and others — where the book was adopted as a reproducible medium to open expression beyond institutional walls.

Today, art book fairs take place worldwide: NY Art Book Fair (Printed Matter), Miss Read (Berlin), Offprint (Paris), and TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR, among others. Asia has become one of the most dynamic markets, drawing creators from around the globe.

The art book fair is no longer merely a marketplace for printed matter. It has become an expanding genre — a space for expression, for reconnection, and for cultural editing.

俳聖・松尾芭蕉の生誕地であり、忍者文化の発祥地でもある伊賀は、古くから「学ぶこと」「書き記すこと」「伝えること」を重んじてきた土地です。江戸時代には藩校のみならず、庶民に道徳を説く心学講舎が各地に設立され、「伊賀心学」と称されるほどの隆盛を見せました。武士から町人・農民に至るまで、学びへの熱意が息づいていた地域です。

近年、2つの新しい図書館がオープンし、個人経営の書店や古本を扱う飲食店も増えるなど、本を通じた文化の再醸成が静かに進んでいます。WAZAWAZAはその流れの中で生まれたアートブックフェアです。

Iga is the birthplace of haiku master Matsuo Bashō and the homeland of ninja culture — a region that has long valued learning, recording, and transmitting knowledge. During the Edo period, numerous Shingaku lecture halls were established alongside domain schools, earning the area the distinction of Iga Shingaku. From samurai to merchants and farmers, a shared enthusiasm for learning permeated the community.

In recent years, two new libraries have opened, while small independent bookshops and cafés offering secondhand books have appeared — quietly fostering a renewed culture around the printed word. WAZAWAZA was born from this momentum.
