About Fair
「わざわざ」とは、しなくてもいいことを、あえて選ぶ行為です。役に立たなくても、売れなくても、すぐに届かなくても、それでも手放したくない衝動がある。Waza Waza — Iga Art Book Fair は、その衝動を、持ち運び、手渡すための場として開かれます。
Waza Waza — Iga Art Book Fair 2026 は、国内外からアートブックとその作り手が集まる二日間のフェアです。会場となるのは、三重県伊賀市にある崇廣堂。二百年前に藩校として建てられたこの建物は、明治に三重県最古の公立図書館となり、およそ八十年、まちの人が本を読みに通いました。1984年に図書館が移ってから、その堂内にある畳七十二枚の大広間は、本のない「間」として残されています。
集まるのは、アートブックと呼ばれる本です。作品集や詩集のような一般的な本から、本という形態や概念そのものを作品として考えた実験的な本まで、そのあり方はさまざまです。こうした本は、一般の流通を通じて届けられるだけでなく、ブックフェアの場で、つくった人の手から直接手渡されてきました。
アートブックフェアの多くは、大きな都市で開かれます。人が多く、本が売れる場所だからです。しかし、伊賀は、そうではありません。大阪や京都、名古屋などの都市圏から少し離れた場所にあり、決してアクセスが良いとは言えません。それでも、わざわざ本をつくる人たちが、わざわざ伊賀まで足を運び、自分の手で本を手渡します。
Waza Waza — Iga Art Book Fair 2026 is a two-day fair where art books and the people who make them gather, from Japan and abroad. It takes place at Sukodo, in Iga, Mie — a school for samurai built two hundred years ago, which became Mie Prefecture's oldest public library in the Meiji era, where townspeople came to read for some eighty years. Since the library moved out in 1984, the great hall inside it — seventy-two tatami mats — has remained a room without books.
The books that gather here are called art books. They range from familiar forms, such as collections of work or books of poems, to experimental books that treat the form and the very idea of a book as the work itself. Books like these reach readers not only through ordinary distribution, but at fairs, handed over directly by the people who made them.
Most art book fairs are held in big cities: places with many people, where books sell. Iga is not such a place. It sits a little away from Osaka, Kyoto and Nagoya, and it is not what anyone would call easy to reach. The phrase waza waza means doing something on purpose, knowing what it costs you. And yet people go to the trouble of making these books, the trouble of travelling all the way here, and hand them over themselves.

Waza Waza が大切にしているのは、まだ出会ったことのない本を見ること、まだ届けたことのない場所で見せること。売るためにつくられた本だけでなく、一冊しかない本、自分で見つけ集めた本——そうしたものを持ち寄れる場でありたいと考えています。国内外からつくり手や届け手が集まり、伊賀という土地で文化が交差する。それがこのフェアの核にあるものです。
What Waza Waza values is encountering books you have never seen before, and showing them in places they have never been. This is not only a place for books made to sell — it welcomes one-of-a-kind copies and books you have found and gathered yourself — carried here because you want someone else to discover them. Creators and carriers gather from Japan and around the world, and in Iga, cultures cross. That is what lies at the heart of this fair.

なぜ今、アートブックなのか
Why Art Books, Why Now
タブレットやスマホで本の内容を気軽に持ち運び読める今の時代。それでも「わざわざ」本をつくり、届け、手に取ることには意味がある——Waza Wazaはその問いから出発しています。
近年、個人や小さな団体が本を印刷・製本し、発表するセルフパブリッシングが国内外で広がりを見せています。商業出版とは異なり、「売れる／売れない」に左右されず、言葉・写真・絵・記録・思想をかたちにする行為です。
生み出される本の中には、読むためだけでなく、見る・触れる・感じるという体験の中に置かれるものも存在します。このフェアでは、国内外の多様な出版社や表現者が一堂に集い、ZINEや手作りの本、ポスターやステッカーに至るまで、図書館や大型流通では出会いにくいアートブックを紹介・販売します。
思いもよらぬ本や作品との出会い、普段見ることのない多様な文化や知識と出合いの場の創出を目指しながら、デジタル化が進むこの社会の中で、わざわざ「本」を選択する意味やその面白さについて考えます。
In an age when books can be carried and read effortlessly on tablets and smartphones, there remains a meaning in going out of one's way — waza waza — to make, deliver, and hold a book. Waza Waza begins from this question.
In recent years, self-publishing — where individuals and small groups print, bind, and present their own books — has grown into a global movement. Unlike commercial publishing, it is an act of giving form to words, photographs, drawings, records, and ideas, free from the pressures of marketability.
At this fair, diverse publishers and creators from Japan and abroad gather in one place to present and sell art books — from zines and handmade books to posters and stickers — works rarely found in libraries or mainstream distribution.
We aim to create a place for unexpected encounters with books and artworks, a space to meet diverse cultures and knowledge not found in everyday life — while reflecting on the meaning and joy of deliberately choosing the book in an increasingly digital world.

世界のアートブックフェア
Art Book Fairs Around the World
アートブックの起源は20世紀前衛芸術（ダダ、フルクサスなど）にあり、制度の外で表現をひらくために「複製可能なメディア」として本が用いられてきました。
現在では、NY Art Book Fair（Printed Matter主催）、Miss Read（ベルリン）、Offprint（パリ）、TOKYO ART BOOK FAIRなど、世界各地でアートブックフェアが開催されています。中でもアジアは注目のマーケットとされ、海外から多くの作家がアジアでのチャレンジ出展を目指しています。
アートブックフェアは「商業流通に乗せる書籍」ではなく、「表現の場」「出会い直す場」「文化編集の場」として拡張されつつあるジャンルです。
The roots of the artist book lie in 20th-century avant-garde movements — Dada, Fluxus, and others — where the book was adopted as a reproducible medium to open expression beyond institutional walls.
Today, art book fairs take place worldwide: NY Art Book Fair (Printed Matter), Miss Read (Berlin), Offprint (Paris), and TOKYO ART BOOK FAIR, among others. Asia has become one of the most dynamic markets, drawing creators from around the globe.
The art book fair is no longer merely a marketplace for printed matter. It has become an expanding genre — a space for expression, for reconnection, and for cultural editing.

伊賀という土地
The Land of Iga
俳聖・松尾芭蕉の生誕地であり、忍者文化の発祥地でもある伊賀は、古くから「学ぶこと」「書き記すこと」「伝えること」を重んじてきた土地です。江戸時代には藩校のみならず、庶民に道徳を説く心学講舎が各地に設立され、「伊賀心学」と称されるほどの隆盛を見せました。武士から町人・農民に至るまで、学びへの熱意が息づいていた地域です。
近年、2つの新しい図書館がオープンし、個人経営の書店や古本を扱う飲食店も増えるなど、本を通じた文化の再醸成が静かに進んでいます。Waza Waza はその流れの中で生まれたアートブックフェアです。
Iga is the birthplace of haiku master Matsuo Bashō and the homeland of ninja culture — a region that has long valued learning, recording, and transmitting knowledge. During the Edo period, numerous Shingaku lecture halls were established alongside domain schools, earning the area the distinction of Iga Shingaku. From samurai to merchants and farmers, a shared enthusiasm for learning permeated the community.
In recent years, two new libraries have opened, while small independent bookshops and cafés offering secondhand books have appeared — quietly fostering a renewed culture around the printed word. Waza Waza was born from this momentum.

崇廣堂が藩校として始めた「学ぶ・書き記す・残す・手渡す」という営みは、形を変えながら現代の伊賀にも息づいています。新しい図書館、独立系書店、そして本を扱う場が、この土地の知の文化を静かに更新しています。
The acts of learning, writing, archiving, and passing on — which Sukodo began as a domain school two centuries ago — continue to shape Iga today, in different forms. New libraries, independent bookshops, and gathering places quietly renew the local culture of books.

BOOKMARK STORAGE
2023年〜
伊賀市新堂、複合施設「SHINDO YARDS」内
「本に出会う図書館」をコンセプトに、伊賀市と DMG 森精機の共同運営で開館。一般書に加え、芸術・ワイン・音楽・海洋・スポーツ・工学等のジャンルを含む2万冊を蔵書。建築は山﨑健太郎氏の設計で、三重県産材を中心とした木造建築、外壁には焼杉を使用。1階のギャラリーには名和晃平氏のアート作品が展示されている。
Jointly operated by Iga City and DMG MORI, with the concept of "a library where you encounter books." Twenty thousand volumes spanning the usual general genres plus art, wine, music, ocean, sports, and engineering. Architect Kentaro Yamazaki's design uses locally sourced timber and yakisugi-charred cedar cladding; the ground-floor gallery hosts works by artist Kohei Nawa.

SAKAKURA BASE（旧上野市庁舎）Sakakura Base (former Ueno City Hall)
2025年〜（伊賀市中央図書館は2026年4月、館内に移転開業）
伊賀市上野丸之内 — Sukodo の徒歩圏
「泊まれる図書館」をコンセプトに、坂倉準三設計のモダニズム建築である旧上野市庁舎を改修。伊賀にぎわい株式会社が運営し、ホテル「泊船」、カフェ「CROSS CAFE」、物販「伊賀百貨」を併設。1984年に Sukodo の図書館機能を引き継いだ上野市立図書館（2004年の合併で伊賀市上野図書館）は、2026年4月、伊賀市中央図書館としてこの建物内に新たな拠点を構える。Sukodo（1821）→ 上野図書館（1984）→ SAKAKURA BASE（2026）と、上野丸之内エリアにおける「知の場」の系譜が連続する。
Concept: "a library where you can stay." The former Ueno City Hall — a modernist building designed by Junzō Sakakura — has been adapted into a multi-use cultural hub by Iga Nigiwai Co., combining a hotel (Hakusen), café (CROSS CAFE), and shop (Iga Hyakka). In April 2026, Ueno Library — which had inherited Sukodo's library function in 1984 — relocates inside this building as Iga City Central Library, continuing the lineage of public reading in the Marunouchi district: Sukodo (1821) → Ueno Library (1984) → Sakakura Base (2026).
